Sarracenia purpurea
This pitcher plant grows wild in the bog in Herbster, WI. It is a wild area attached to Lake Superior. The quiet corner of the bog allows for the sphagnum moss to create a mat that floats on the water and offers a safe place for this water loving pitcher plant to thrive. Small insects are enticed into the pitcher at the base for a delectable meal, only to be trapped by the plant. These little insects become a meal for the pitcher plant.
